Building the trust layer for the next billion.

Visionary./Grounded./Rooted.

I'm Vamsi Udayagiri. Over 24 years — from my first venture to India's largest phygital rural commerce network — I've turned Bharat's informal economy into infrastructure the world can build on. Visionary in ambition, grounded in the village, rooted in the soil that raised me.

01The story
4,000+
villages walked
Rooted in Andhra's soil. Grounded in the village. Visionary about what Bharat can become.

From a non-business family, in 2000 Vamsi co-founded his first company, Riddles 'n' Clues — carving a niche in supply-chain and after-market solutions for the likes of PepsiCo, Gillette, Luxor and Ray-Ban. Six years later, he exited at a 3× profit. The bigger payback, he says, was the experience.

A stint at Ramco Systems followed, taking India's first on-demand ERP to market — and, formatively, working alongside Prof. C.K. Prahalad on the "Bottom of the Pyramid." That idea never left him.

By 2010 he'd walked away from the corporate world to answer one question: what does rural India actually need? He spent nearly two years and 4,000+ villages finding out. On April 16, 2012, he founded Rural Yellow to bridge rural supply and demand.

Seven years in, Rural Yellow became Hesa. In 2020, Hesa Technologies — an integrated B2B rural marketplace powered by Hesaathis, village-level entrepreneurs who bring commerce, credit and services to the last mile. The horizon: 650,000 villages.

Building, since 2000

Visionary

Building the institutions Bharat will run on for the next century — trade, identity, credit, capital.

Grounded

Every idea tested on foot, in the village, against real lives — never theorised from a city desk.

Rooted

From the soil of Andhra to 100,000 villages — the work has never drifted far from the ground.

02What I'm building
One flagship. One studio. A portfolio of Bharat.
The Flagship

Hesa हेसा

“Hé Saathi” — hey, companion.

India's largest phygital rural commerce platform — a living network of 70,000+ Hesaathis carrying commerce, credit and services to 100,000+ villages. Profitable, and on an IPO trajectory.

FORGE फोर्ज

Ideas enter. Companies leave.

A venture studio building the institutions rural India still lacks. Each venture takes a thesis to a working company — brand, model, product, capital — then sends it into the world.

The Hesaathi

One entrepreneur. One village. A whole economy in motion.

“Before Hesa, the nearest real market was hours away. Now the village comes to me — and I've become the reason it stays connected.”

Every Hesaathi is a village-level entrepreneur: part shopkeeper, part banker, part bridge to the formal economy. They turn distribution into dignity — earning a livelihood while bringing commerce, credit and services to neighbours the system never reached.

06The journey
Two decades of building, one conviction.
2000 – 2006

Riddles 'n' Clues — the first venture

Co-founded his first company in a new city, with no business family behind him. Built supply-chain solutions for PepsiCo, Gillette, Luxor and Ray-Ban — and exited at 3×.

2007 – 2008

Ramco Systems & the Bottom of the Pyramid

Took India's first on-demand ERP to market and worked alongside Prof. C.K. Prahalad — where the idea of serving the "Bottom of the Pyramid" took root for good.

2010 – 2012

Walking 4,000+ villages

Left the corporate world to understand rural India first-hand — nearly two years and four thousand villages, until the gaps became a life's mission.

April 16, 2012

Rural Yellow is founded

Built to bridge rural supply and demand across agriculture, employment, energy and entertainment — the seed of everything that followed.

2019 – 2020

Rural Yellow becomes Hesa

Seven years of ground truth rebranded and expanded into Hesa Technologies — an integrated B2B rural marketplace powered by Hesaathis.

2023

Stanford Seed

Completed the Stanford GSB Seed Transformation Programme — sharpening the craft of scaling an enterprise built for Bharat.

2026 & beyond

The world stage & FORGE

Carrying the case for Bharat to WEF Davos 2026, and building the next generation of institutions through FORGE — on the way to 650,000 villages.

07The VU Doctrine
“Bharat is not a market to be captured. It's a civilization to be formalized — and trust is the only infrastructure that scales.”
  • 01

    Distribution-as-Identity

Who you can reach defines who you are. The last mile is the moat.

  • 02

    Trust-as-Infrastructure

In rural India, trust is the rail everything else runs on. Build it, and the economy follows.

  • 03

    The Hesaathi Economy

Growth led by the village entrepreneur — human, local, impossible to replicate from a city.

  • 04

Bottom of the Pyramid, done right

Not charity — infrastructure the village owns. Dignity and enterprise, at scale.
